The ensemble A Certain Attitude brings the electrifying spirit of hard bop to life, performing pieces inspired by genre legends such as Mulgrew Miller, James Williams, Donald Brown, and Woody Shaw. Alongside fresh interpretations of classic compositions, the band also presents original works written by its members, all while maintaining the energy and virtuosity that define the style.

Hard bop is a subgenre of jazz that emerged in the 1950s in the U.S. as an evolution of bebop. It combines bebop’s intricate improvisation and virtuosity with influences from blues, gospel, and rhythm & blues. Simply put, it’s jazz with a bit more soul.
