Among the various representations that have been attributed to women throughout history, the figures of the warrior and the prophetess are among the earliest. In this program, the operatic scene by Monteverdi "The Battle of Tancredi and Clorinda," which is taken from the epic poem "Jerusalem Delivered" by Torquato Tasso, will be performed alongside the lament of Cassandra—the cursed Trojan prophetess whose prophecy about the fall of Troy was ignored. These dramas, along with the story of Saul and the Witch of Endor, will provide a perspective on the roles of women in times of conflict—as protectors, mediators, and seers—while the musical setting is magnificent.
